On January 9, 1860, in Bryan County, W.W. Shuman acknowledged receipt from Wm. [William] Strickland and C.M. Bashler, former guardians of the minor heirs of George H. Shuman, of $514 in notes, twelve dollars in money, and “two negro slaves valued at $1,200.00 dollars,” for a total of $1733.70, “the same being the part or portion coming to James E. Shuman ond of said minors & who I have this day been appointed guardian…”
On the same day, John Butler acknowledged receipt from the same people of $444.35 in money and “three negro slaves valued at $1400.00” as the portion coming to Francis B. Shuman, one of the minor heirs, for whom he was acting as guardian.
John Butler also acknowledged receipt of $906.56 in notes, $17.44 in money, and “one negro slave valued at $800” as guardian of George Henry Shuman, one of the minor heirs.
James Butler, on the same day, acknowledged receipt of $1014.99 in notes, $8.11 in money, and “one negro slave valued at $900.00” as guardian of ? Elrian ? Shuman, one of the minor heirs.
All recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on January 14, 1860.
