On November 22, 1857, Mathew [alt: Matthew] M. Morgan, Bryan County, gifted to his wife Mary Caroline Morgan and all his children, current and future, via her trustee Joseph J. Smith, the following property:

  • a 200-acre tract originally granted to George H. Shuman and bounded at the time of survey on all sides by vacant land
  • a 150-acre tract bounded at time of survey by land belonging to Morgan, Bird and Bird & Smith and E.R. Cox
  • a 200-acre tract originally granted to Mathew M. Morgan and bounded at time of survey by land belonging to Morgan, Bird & Smith & E.R. Cox
  • a 20-acre tract granted to Mathew M. Morgan and bounded at time of survey by land belonging to Christian Morgan, Mathew Morgan, Smith & E.R. Cox
  • “a certain negro man named Sam aged about thirty four years and a certain negro girl named Elsy aged about fifteen years”
  • two horses, 17 head of stock cattle, one buggy, one two-horse waggon and one cart

All the land listed above was in Bryan County. All the property was to be held in trust for Mary Caroline Moran during her lifetime and to be distributed to her children after her death but controlled and managed by Mathew Morgan. He could also direct the trustee to sell any of the property. The property was to be free from any of his debts. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on January 23, 1858.
