On January 29, 1846, at Savannah, Hiram Roberts, sold to Alexander W. Stephens and Benjamin Stiles, trustees of Jane Penney, wife of Beecroft Penney, , for $749.24 “two certain negro slaves, to wit, Lempeter [or Lemsseter] a man, aged about thirty six years, and Catharine a woman, aged about forty years.” Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on April 25, 1846.
