On April 23, 1842, John P. Maxwell, Bryan County, sold to Dr. Charles W. Rogers for $2046.76 “the following named negro slaves with their increase to wit, Sally, aged thirty seven years, Phillis aged nineteen years, Silvia, aged seventeen years, and her infant child, Catharine aged sixteen years, James aged fourteen years, Luke aged eleven years, John aged nine years, Patty aged six years, Bess aged twenty five years, Molly aged three years, and Jane aged fourteen years, with their future increase..” Witnessed by Henry Harden, Charles A. Harden, J.P. Bryan County. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on May 4, 1842.
