On February 1, 1803, Simon Maxwell, of Bryan County, used as collateral on a promissory note for $1360.19 to Edward Stebbins of Savannah, Chatham County, “the following negro slaves viz Josey, Elsey [alt: Elsy], Sharlot [Sharlot?], Affy [alt: Affey, Affee], and the future issue and increase of the female slaves.” Witnessed by Richard M. Maxwell, William Caldwell. Probated by Richard M. Maxwell on January 17, 1805. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on January 19, 1805.
