On September 6, 1820, Benjamin Mell, planter of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $5341 to Nathaniel Law, Liberty County “the following negro slaves; viz. Fortune, Bacchus, Toney, Tennessee, Abram, Diana, Cinder [alt: Cinda], Dinah, also another Diana, Jack, another Abram, Isaac, Sue, Dorcas.” Witnessed by Joseph Law, Jr. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on September 18, 1820.
