Enslaved People Named: Sam, Judy, Die
On January 4, 1820, William H. Mell and Sarah Elizabeth Mell, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1265.98 to Benjamin Mell Junior, same place, “a certain male slave named Sam, & two female slaves, named Judy & Die [alt: Dye], the last about 30 years of age, with the increase of the females.” Witnessed by Uriah Wilcox, William T. Mell. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on January 11, 1820.
