Enslaved People Named: Galloway, Leah, Sambo, Charles
On February 22, 1806, Joseph, Benjamin and Samuel S. Law, administrators of the estate of Joseph Law, Senior, turned over to Nathaniel Law 1/7th part of the Joseph Law estate, as one of the heirs, on the condition that he be responsible for up to 1/7th part of the estate’s debts. This 1/7th part included “the following Negroe Slaves, to wit, Galloway [or Gallaway], Leah and her child Sambo & Charles,” as well as 1/7th part of a tract of land known as Liberty Point, bounded on one side by the Newport River marsh, west by land of Thomas Young, and on another side by land of Thomas E. Law. Witnesssed by Edward W. North, William Dunham. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 3, 1807.
