Enslaved Persons Named: Sampson
On January 23, 1782, James Carter of St. Johns Parish in the Province of Georgia [now Liberty County] gifted to his “loving wife” Martha Carter “all my Estate both real and personal consisting of lands Negroes horses cattle hoggs and household furniture…excepting one negroe boy named Sampson which I give and bequeath unto James Carter Bowler and his heirs and assigns forever.” Witnessed by Thomas Harn, Major Samuel West. Probated by Samuel West on March 28, 1792. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 3, 1792.
