Enslaved Persons Named: Johnny, Harriet, Hannah
On March 18, 1788, Euphemia Baker, wife of Artemas Baker, gentleman of Liberty County acknowledged receipt from Elizabeth and Josiah Powell of a bequest from her mother Jean Low’s will: “three Negroes, namely Johnny, Harriet and Hannah and sundry small articles in the whole amounting to, as by appraisement, one hundred and sixty pounds eighteen shillings.” Jean Low was identified as late of Liberty County and wife to Philip Low, also now deceased. Witnessed by William Kirkland. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on October 29, 1788.
