Enslaved Persons Named: Tom

On February 21, 1788, James Allen, Glynn County, sold to James Cole, of Glynn County, for 40 pounds sterling “one negro boy named Tom formerly the property of Miss Catharine Collehorn.” Allen was making the sale based on a power of attorney from Catharine Collehorn. Witnessed by John Cole, Baptis Cole. Recorded in Book B, folio 138, on June 17, 1788, in the Effingham County’s Clerks Office. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on July 31, 1788. [NOTE: Miss Collehorn’s name was also spelled Gollehorn in this deed.]
