On April 14, 1831, Serena Way, spinster of Liberty County, and Thomas J. Shepard, merchant of Liberty County, entered into a marriage contract with William Jones and Samuel Way, both of Liberty County, as her trustees. Serena was identified as an heir of her father, the late John Way Senior, of Liberty County, and thus her inheritance from him was put into trust for her. Witnessed by N. Varnedoe, M.L. Jones. [NOTE: Although no names were given, it was mentioned that there were slaves in the property.] Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 27, 1831.
