On May 18, 1831, Adam T. Holmes, teacher, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $504.83 to Joseph Austin, planter, Liberty County, “a male slave named Jacob & a female slave named Affy, a gig, & gold watch.” Witnessed by James D. Stevens, Stafford A. Somersall. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 25, 1831.
