Enslaved Persons Named: George

On February 24, 1830, James James, of Morris County, New Jersey, sold to James Laing, Liberty County, for $500 “a certain negro boy, about eighteen or twenty years of age, named George.” On March 11, 1830, Charles M. King appeared before Chatham County Inferior Court Judge Elias Fort to swear that he was familiar with the handwriting and signatures of James James and witness Jacob M. King, both of Morris County, and that he believed these to be their signatures.
