Enslaved Persons Named: July
On March 11, 1830, John Girardeau, planter, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $144.79 to Uriah Wilcox, trader, Liberty County, “a certain male slave named July; also a certain tract of land, situate in said County, on which the said Girardeau now resides, containing two hundred acres, more or less, bounded on the east by lands of Jno. [John] S. Quarterman & Wm. [William] Spencer, on the south by lands of Wm. [William] P. Girardeau, on the west by lands of John Dunwody, & on the north by lands formerly belonging to the estate of David G. Holms.” Witnessed by William Spencer. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on March 11, 1830. [NOTE: This mortgage was marked as satisfied per U. Wilcox as of February 12, 1836. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on July 15, 1836.]
