Enslaved Persons Named: Nero

On a date not specified, James James, of Morris County, New Jersey, sold to James E. Martin, of Liberty County, Georgia, for $400 “a certain negro man named Nero, about forty five years or thereabouts.” Witnessed by Henry King and Jacob M. King. On March 4, 1830, Charles M. King appeared before Chatham County Inferior Court Judge Elias Fort to swear that he was familiar with the handwriting of James James, Henry King and Jacob M. King, all of Morristown, New Jersey, and that he believed the signatures were theirs. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on March 8, 1830.
