Enslaved Persons Named: Balaam, Cupid, Sam, Boston, July, April, Champ, Rose, Kate, Dinah, Sylvia, Beck, Sambo, Amey [alt: Amy], Cadmus, Monday, Nat, Dinah, Sylla [alt: Cilla], Bob, Sully, Sabina, Edmund

On April 1, 1828, Liberty County Sheriff Benjamin Mell sold to William Law, of Savannah, for $3000 “the following named negro slaves, to wit, Balaam, Cupid, Sam, Boston, July, April, Champ, Rose, Kate, Dinah, Sylvia, Beck, Sambo, Amey [alt: Amy], Cadmus, Monday, Nat, Dinah, Sylla [alt: Cilla], Bob, Sully, Sabina, Edmund.” Following foreclosure of a mortgage from Benjamin Law, deceased, to Nathaniel Law & William Law, Liberty County Deputy Sheriff Edward Way had seized these individuals and had turned them over to Sheriff Benjamin Mell “upon his going out of office.” Mell put them up for auction on April 1, 1828, the first Tuesday in April, at 11:00 in Riceboro in a public sheriff’s sale. William Law was the highest bidder. Witnessed by R.F. Baker. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 3, 1830.
