On May 22, 1826, John S. Mell, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $200 to George W. Walthour, same place, “a certain negro man slave named Guy.” Witnessed by Jos. [Joseph] F. McGowen. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on June 5, 1826.
