“Upon the petition of William Spencer, a free person of color, (which petition has been exhibited in writing) praying that Mr. Furman R. Whitwell be appointed his guardian, the said Furman R. Whitwell was appointed accordingly and was duly qualified as guardian aforesaid, John D. Hathaway Security.”
