In the Name of God Amen, I Elijah Quarterman,
of Liberty County in the State of Georgia, being
Weak and low in Body, but of a sound and perfect
Understanding, and not knowing the Day of my
Death, Do make and ordain this my last Will and
Testament, First of all recommending my Soul into
the Hands of Almighty God who gave it; and my
Body to decent Burial at the Discretion of my Executors
First I give to Mary Wilson, (my wife’s sister)
my Lot of Land in the Town of Sunbury, to her, her
Heirs, and Assigns forever.
In Case I should not hereafter have a Child born
to me, that shall live to the Age of twenty Years, or
to be married; Then, and in this Case I give my Tract
of Land on which I now live; And also my
Three Hundred Acres of Land near Sunbury to be equally
divided according to their Value between my beloved
Wife Margaret Quarterman, and my Niece Sarah
Wilson, to them, their Heirs and Assigns forever.
And In the Case aforesaid I give all the Rest
and Residue of my Estate both Real and Personal to
my said Wife to her, her Heirs, and Assigns forever.
But in case I should hereafter have a
Child born to me (that shall live to the age of twenty years or be married) then and in this Case, I give all
my Estate both Real and Personal (excepting the
Lot above said) to be equally divided between my
beloved Wife Margaret Quarterman, and the said
Child to them, their Heirs, and Assigns forever.
This is my Will That in any of the Cases

aforesaid, That my said Wife shall have the Privilege
of residing on my Plantation where I now live as long
as she shall remain my Widow.
Lastly I constitute and appoint my beloved Wife
Margaret Quarterman, Executrix, and my Uncle
William Quarterman, my Brothers, Thomas Sumner,
James Wilson, and John Quarterman Executors of this
my last Will and Testament; And I do hereby
revoke, and disallow, all former Wills by me heretofore
made, and ratify and confirm this and no other to
be my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof
I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this fifteenth
Day of May in the Year of our Lord one Thousand seven
Hundred, and Eighty five, and ninth of the Independence
of the United States of America.
Signed, sealed, and acknowledged
by the Testator Elijah Quarterman
to be his last Will and Testament
in Presence of us, who at his Request
and in his Presence, and in the Presence
of each other have hereunto subscribed
our Names as Witnesses.
