On March 22, 1855, Phereby Shuman, Bryan County, sold to Wm. [William] H. Shuman, Bryan County, for $300 “the following property to wit, a certain negro girl named Lidda about five years of age of yellow complexion which negro girl I warrant to be sound and well in body and mind and to be a slave for life.” Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on February 20, 1863.
