On November 1, 1862, Samuel J. Davis, Bryan County, sold to Charles J. Ulmer, Bryan County, for $1000 “the following property, to wit: seven negro Slaves, namely, Simon, aged about fity years, Judy aged about thirty three, Emely [alt: Emily] nine years of age, Israel seven years old, Ella five years old, Cy three years old, Henry about nine months old, which negroes I warrant to be sound and well in body and in mind and to be slaves for life., also one hundred head of hogs (more or less) forty head of cattle, four head of mules, one wood boat, eight gums with bees, crops of every kind.” Witnessed by James T. Buckner. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on February 9, 1863.
