On January 21, 1858, John V. Wells, Bryan County, used as collateral on a promissory note to John C. Ulmer, Bryan County, for $693 “the following property – to wit five certain negroes named Lucy of yellow complexion about thirty years of age Tamar about eleven years of age of dark complexion Collins of yellow complexion about eleven years of age Adaline of yellow complexion about five years of age Catharine of yellow complexion about two years of age.” Witnessed by F.M. Best. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on February 9, 1858.
