Enslaved People Named: Nero, Billy
On May 10, 1859, in Chatham County, John Jackson Maxwell, Bryan County, used as collateral on a promissory note to William H. Burroughs for $659.08 “the following named negro slaves to wit, Nero about forty (40) years of age; and Billy about twenty three (23) years of age.” Witnessed by Thos. [Thomas] H. Maxwell. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on September 27, 1859.
