On October 17, 1857, Gordon I. [or J] Goodson, Bryan County, used as collateral on a promissory note to Solomon Smith (Sr) for $105 “the following property, to wit, a certain Negro Girl named Caroline of black complexion thirteen years of age.” Witnessed by John V. Wells. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on October 20, 1857. This record marked as satisfied as of December 21, 1859.
