Enslaved People Named: Bob
Based on an order by Judge W.B. Fleming in chambers on April 19, 1858, permission was given to the executors of the last will and testament of Nicholas J. Clark, late of Liberty County, to sell a “certain negro slave named Bob, belonging to the estate, at public or private sale, whichever might be more advantageous. On June 19, 1858, the executors, John Clark and Richard Clark, sold Bob for $900 to John Harn, Bryan County. Bob was said to be 22 years old and was formerly owned by Nicholas J. Clark during his lifetime. The executors warranted him to be “sound in body and mind and a legal slave for life.” Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on December 23, 1858.
