1807 Bryan County Chattel Mortgage (Butler/Bolton & Co)

On March 27, 1807, James Butler, Bryan County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1726.79 to Robert & John Bolton, merchants of Savannah, “the following negros to wit Graci aged about thirty years David about twenty five years, Charles about sixteen years Luke about fourteen years Mary about twelve years Dye about five years Present about thirty years, Little Tom about seven years Big Tom about thirty five years, Jeny [or Jerry] about forty years Smart about six years – three females and eight males.” Witnessed by James C. Scott, Thomas Glen, who probated the signatures on April 23, 1807. Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on June 2, 1807.
