1805 Bryan County Collateral Mortgage (Miller/Lawson)

On February 23, 1805, Morris Miller, attorney in Savannah, used as collateral on a promissory note of $468 to John Lawson, also an attorney of Savannah, “two certain negro slaves called Cudgo [alt: Cudjo] and Hager [alt: Hagar] (which said slaves were purchased some time ago as new negros by said John Lawson from John Caig) together with the future issue and increase of said female slave.” Recorded in Bryan County Superior Court on March 23, 1805. [NOTE: Morris Miller styled himself as being an attorney in Savannah, but his name is seen frequently in Bryan County Superior Court deed records and he is assumed to have had a residence there.]
