Apprenticeship Record

Georgia, Liberty County } This Indenture made the sixth day of August 1878 between John Stewart of Walthourville said state and county of the one part and Mary W. Whatley of the same place of the other part Witnesseth that the said party of the first part in consideration of the promise made to him by the part of the second part as well as in consideration of five dollars to him in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents that the said party of the second part will take charge of rise [sic] and educate to read and write in the English Language and otherwise comfortably provide for his little daughter Hannah Stewart during the time of her apprenticeship hereinafter mentioned. Has by these presents let out and apprentices and does hereby let out and apprenticed his said daughter Hannah Stewart (the mother of said Hannah having recently died) to the said party of second part, to be brought up in the work of the house, kitchen, yard, garden etc for and during the term of her minority or until she arrives at the age of twenty one years.

In witness whereof we have hereto set our hands and seals, the day and year first above written. The said Mary W. Whatley signifying her acceptance of the articles of apprenticeship as above stated by her signature attached hereto.

Georgia, Liberty County } Personally appeared before the undersigned J.L. Whatley who being sworn says that he was a witness to the within articles of apprenticeship and that he saw Mary W. Whatley and John Stewart sign and seal the same in his presence and in the presence of the other witness John Rowland.
