Enslaved People Named: Stepney

On September 4, 1821, Jesse Ham bought “one negro boy named Stepney” for $350 at a sheriff’s sale in Bryan County. Stepney had been seized from the estate of Charles E. Harden and sold to satisfy a judgement in favor of the administrator of Reuben S. Saffold’s estate. Bryan County Sheriff George H. Shuman documented the sale. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on January 3, 1822.
