Enslaved People Named: Chloe, Fortune, Diana, Abram, Darcus

On June 4, 1816,  Benjamin Mell, planter of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1400 to Uriah Wilcox, yeoman of Liberty County, “the five following negro slaves, with the increase of the females; viz. A wench named Chloe, & her four children named Fortune, Diana, Abram, & Darcus.” Witnessed by Jon. Bacon, John S. Mell. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on June 12, 1816. 

On February 3, 1820, it was recorded that this mortgage had been paid in full as of January 20, 1820.
