Bill of Sale (Mell/Mell)

Enslaved People Named: George, Aggy, Prime

On April 7, 1812, Liberty County Coroner Andrew Rodes sold to Benjamin Mell for $131 “three certain negroes, the property of the said Thomas Mell, named George, Aggy & Prime.” They had been seized by Rodes based on a writ of fieri facias issued to the coroners of Georgia authorizing them to seize property from Thomas Mell, after a successful lawsuit against him in Liberty County Superior Court by Samuel Lewis, executor of the estate of Abner Porter, late of Liberty County. Rodes had put them up for public auction on April 7, 1812 and Mell was the highest bidder.  Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 25, 1815.
