Marriage Contract (Stone/Jourdine)

Enslaved People Named: Sary, Celia, Bess, Simon, Elsy

On June 28, 1814, Thomas McL. Stone, Liberty County, entered into a marriage contract with Susanna S. Jourdine, daughter of Leonard Jourdine, deceased, with John McGowen and Joseph Jones. Put into trust for her was “the following property (to wit) March, Sary & child Celia, Bess and two children, Simon & Elsy, making six slaves.” Witnessed by William Maxwell, Samuel Lines. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on July 4, 1814.
