On March 15, 1809, John McGowen, planter of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $450 to Josiah Wilson, Liberty County, “those two negro Slaves named Jack, Muriah [or Mariah or Murriah]” and a tract of land in Liberty County. Witnessed by Jas. Powell. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on December 20, 1810.
