Bill of Sale (Sanford/Harville)

Enslaved People Named: Judah

On May 19, 1808, Joshua Sanford sold to Edward Harville for $250 “for one Negroe Girl by the name of Judah.” Sanford added that Judah had been seized on May 5, 1808, from Elias Cassels based on lawsuits by Jordan Roach and Samuel Warren. Sanford legally sold her on May 21 at a Justice’s Court in Liberty County’s 17th [General] Militian Company District. Because the terms of the sale were not complied with [in an unspecified way], Sanford re-sold her to Edward Harville. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on June 28, 1808.
