On April 13, 1805, John Stuart, planter of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $921.88 to Thomas Lanchester, merchant of North Newport, “the following Slaves, that is to say, Abraham Joe & Jim. Witnessed by William Robarts, John Lewis. Charles Harris, attorney for the Thomas Lanchester estate, transferred this note to James James on February 19, 1806.
