Enslaved People Named: Tom

On March 5, 1806, Liberty County Sheriff Joseph Jones sold to Moses Way for $450 “one certain Negroe fellow named Tom.” Tom had been seized from John Stewart of Liberty County based on a writ of fieri facias obtained as a result of a suit against him by Messrs James and William Robarts and others in the Liberty County Superior and Inferior Courts. Jones sold him at public auction at the Riceboro courthouse on Tuesday the fourth dayof March. Way was the highest bidder. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 26, 1808.
