Enslaved People Named: Billy

On November 3, 1807, Liberty County Sheriff Joseph Jones sold to Thomas Ard for $360 “a certain Negroe fellow named Billy the property of the said John Molich.” Jones had seized Billy from Molich based on a writ of fieri facias obtained via a judgment in Liberty County Superior Court due to a suit again Molich by Taylor and Scarborough, Joseph Miller and the executors of Thomas Lanchester. He put Billy up for public auction at the courthouse in Riceborough and Ard was the highest bidder. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on November 4, 1807.
