Bill of Sale (Lambright/Robarts)

Enslaved People Named: Moses, Phoebe

On March 5, 1808 [SIC*], Liberty County Sheriff Joseph Jones sold at a sheriff’s sale to William Robarts “two certain Negroes…to wit, a fellow named Moses and a wench named old Phoebe.” Jones had seized Moses and Phebe from William Lambright, against whom William Robarts and James Robarts had obtained a judgment in Liberty County Inferior Court. A writ of fieri facias was issued, and Jones used it to seize them and put them  up for public auction. Robarts was the highest bidder and paid $154 for Phoebe and $111 for Moses. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 5, 1806.

[NOTE: The date 1808 was written out, but the deed was recorded in April 1806, so the written date evidently should have been 1806.]
