Enslaved People Named: Toney, Betty, August, Jack, Abby, Hannah, Molly, Dick

On April 5, 1808, Liberty County Sheriff Jos. Wilson sold to Joseph Bevan for $1176 “certain negroes named Toney, Betty, August, Jack and Abby.” They had been seized from the estate of John Jones based on a writ of fieri facias obtained via a suit against the estate in Liberty County Superior and Inferior Courts by M & J Johnston, Edmund ? Swarbric ?,” Lewis Prudhome, James Johnston and others. They were sold at public auction at the courthouse in Riceborough on April 5, 1808 and Bevan was the highest bidder. Witnessed by John Vance. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on April 12, 1808. 

At the same sale, “certain Negroes named Hannah and her children Molly and Dick,” also the property of John Jones, deceased, were sold based on the same writ of fieri facias to Captain Paul H. Wilkins for $380.
