On December 1, 1804, John Jones, Liberty County, used as collateral on promissory notes totalling $3640.79 to James D’Wolf “all and singular the Negro Slaves hereinafter mentioned, that is to say, Sunbury, October, November, December, May, April, Nancy and Sukey…” Witnessed by William Davies. Also, normally the residency of both parties would be specified in a deed, but in this case, it was left blank for James D’Wolf in two places.]

Jones and his wife Susan H. Jones also mortgaged to James D’Wolf a 400-acre tract of land in Liberty County, and a 500-acre tract of land adjoining the other tract, both of which were bounded south by lands of James McKay, west by lands of Richard Girardeau, north by lands of Thomas Way, and on all other sides by land that was vacant at the time of survey. Also mortgaged was a 250-acre tract of land in Liberty County, bounded on the southwest by lands of James McKay, northwest by lands of James Steuart, east by lands of Edward Way and vacant land, and south by lands of Nathaniel Clark and vacant land. Witnessed by William Davies, Charles ? Dukes ?. Davies probated the document in Chatham County court. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on June 20, 1805.
