Deed of Gift (Jones/Jones)

Enslaved People Named: Sampson, Rachel

On March 30, 1804, John Jones, planter of Liberty County, gifted to his son John Jones the younger, via trustees Colonel Daniel Stewart and Joseph Jones, both planters of Liberty County, “two certain negroe slaves, named Sampson a boy aged about four years and Rachel a girl aged about five years.” The trustees were to hold them for the sole use and benefit of John Jones the younger until he became 18 years old or married, whichever happened first. If he were to die before that time, they would become the property of Elizabeth Jones, his sister. If they both died before the age of 18 or marriage, then Sampson and Rachel would revert to the estate of John Jones the elder. Witnessed by A. Forrester. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on July 30, 1804.
