Enslaved Persons Named: Cupid

On January 21, 1791, Liberty County Sheriff Lachlan McIntosh recorded the sale of “a certain negroe man by name Cupid” who had belonged to Parmenas Way at public auction. John Baker was the highest bidder at 25 pounds. John Baker had obtained a judgment against Parmenas Way, who was outside the state, from the Liberty County Inferior Court, which had caused Sheriff McIntosh to seize Cupid, advertise his sale for 30 days, then put him up for sale on December 2, 1790. Witnessed by Joseph T. Hardy. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on January 27, 1791.
