Enslaved Persons Named: Bob, Rachel, Snow

On March 18, 1788, Elizabeth Irvine, formerly Elizabeth Darling, and her husband Charles Irvine of Liberty County, acknowledged receipt from Elizabeth and Josiah Powell of a bequest from her mother Jean Low’s will: “three Negroes, namely Bob, Rachel and Snow and sundry small articles in the whole amounting to, as by appraisement, one hundred and sixty pounds eighteen shillings.” Jean Low was identified as late of Liberty County and wife to Philip Low, also now deceased. Witnessed by William Kirkland. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on October 29, 1788.
