On October 18, 1789, Stephen Baker, planter of St. John’s Parish, gifted to Martha, his wife, via her trustee John Baker, of Sunbury, “two tracts of land containing three thousand and eighty acres, in the said State, also thirty three male Slaves and thirty three female Slaves,” as well as 80 head of breeding cattle, as well as other items.
