Enslaved Persons Named: Mentor

On April 13, 1789, Liberty County Sheriff John Dollar sold to Adam Alexander, “practitioner of physic in the said county,” for 110 pounds sterling “a Negroe Boy slave named Mentor.” Mentor, who had belonged to Peter Donworth, had been seized by Dollar and sold at public auction based on a Liberty County Superior Court judgment for 45 pound obtained by Martha McNeil, administrator of John McNeil’s estate, and John Collins, of Liberty County, against Peter Donworth, same county. Witnessed by Wm. [William] Houstoun. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on September 1, 1789.
