Enslaved Persons Named: Tom, Solomon, Robin, Pompey, Rose, Bess, Mariah, Plimouth [alt: Plymouth], Cate, Ned, Hagar, Agnes, Juliet, Romeo, Jack, Cate, Joe

On May 22, 1787, Persianna Lockerman, Liberty County, sold to James Dunwoody, physician of Liberty County, and James Jackson, Chatham County, for 5 pounds sterling “all the aftermentioned Negroe Slaves, that is to say, Tom, Solomon, Robin, Pompey, Rose, Bess, Mariah, Plimouth [alt: Plymouth], Cate, Ned, Hagar, Agnes, Juliet, Romeo, Jack, Cate and Joe and their issue and increase.” The condition of the sale was that they were to hold them in trust for  Mrs. Sarah McIntosh, Persianna Lockerman’s granddaughter and wife of John McIntosh, also of Liberty County, during her natural life. Mrs. McIntosh was to have full power and authority “to dispose of the said Negroe Slaves and the issue and increase of the same by her last Will and Testament, or otherwise howsoever to whoemever she may think proper.” Witnessed by Mary S. Swinton, A.D. Cuthbert, Wm [William] McIntosh. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on September 7, 1787.
