On October 16, 1778, Mrs. Jean Darling, St. John’s Parish and relict of Andrew Darling, deceased, of St. John’s Parish, gifted to “her beloved daughter” Uphemia [alt: Euphemia] Darling “one Negro Girl or Woman called Cloe [alt: Chloe].” Witnessed by Elizabeth Powell.
