On March 14, 1831, Samuel Spencer, planter of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note for $669.03 to Uriah Wilcox, trader of Liberty County, “a female slave named Hetty, & her two children named Rakey & Washington; likewise another female slave named Phillis [alt: Phyllis], & her two children named Venus & Sylvia together with the future issue and increase of the females.” Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on March 25, 1831.
