On May 17, 1829, Thomas Mallard reported that a “mortgage of slaves,” recorded in Book I page 219 on March 30, 1827, by Thomas Baker had been paid in full. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 20, 1829. [NOTE: Although not specified in this deed, the mortgage recorded in Book I, page 219, named the enslaved people involved as Venus, Diana, James, Little June, Jack, Old June.]
